Bottesford NHW Alert: Attempted Scrap Metal Thefts in Bingham/Thefts from Motor Vehicles - Update

Attempted Scrap Metal Thefts in Bingham

Reports are being received about repeated attempted metal thefts near the White Lion in Bingham. A male aged 45-55 wearing a black leather trilby-type hat and driving a distinctive orange Transit van, registration number believed to be YM53 CKK, has been seen entering a building site and helping himself to anything that the builders have forgotten to put away. He drives off if approached. He has been seen on at least four occasions by three different people most recently at 5:50pm Wed 14th March.

We are circulating this alert in case he spreads his activities into the Bottesford or surrounding area. Nottinghamshire police have been alerted and anyone seeing this person/van acting suspiciously should report it to the police on 101.

Thefts from Motor Vehicles - Update

The following message is from Insp John Gray of Leicestershire Police:

There has been a significant spate of vehicle crimes where windows have been smashed and satnavs and phones taken. Locations are throughout the town and Vale (Wymondham, Eaton. Eastwell). In addition 4x4s have been targeted for their catalytic convertors, especially Ford Rangers. The attached letter gives more details. Extra patrols are in place and one arrest has already been made with a male charged with 5 crimes on Melton and remanded in custody.

Please remain alert and where possible take extra precautions to protect your valuables and vehicles. Report any suspicious activity to the police on the 101 non-emergency number with as much information as possible ie vehicle make/colour/registration number and descriptions of suspects.
