Bottesford NHW Alert: LyoydsTSB Phishing Email/Diesel Thefts

LloydsTSB Phishing Email

A local resident has reported receiving the following email purporting to come from LloydsTSB bank:

"Dear Lloyds TSB Bank Customer,
Your account is suspended due to irregular activity in your Lloyds Tsb account .For your protection, We have suspended your account. To reactivate your login access please downloads the form attached To your email and update your details.
Regards,

Karen riley

In this case the recipient recognised it as an attempted scam immediately because he/she does not have an account with this bank! But there are other indications:
  • the message is  addressed to "Dear Lloyds TSB Customer". A quick check of the bank's website tells us that any correspondence they send about individuals' accounts will be personalised
  • there is irregular use of capital letters (eg the surname of the signatory from the bank is not capitalised) and the punctuation/grammar in places is poor ). In todays highly sophisticated digital world this is not simply down to human error at the bank - it is an indicator that the email is not genuine
If you receive such an email please be aware and under no circumstances click on any link provided. If you don't have an account with the bank concerned simply delete the message. If you do, the best course of action would be to make enquiries with the bank directly, but don't rely on contact information supplied in the original message!

Diesel Thefts
Be aware that there has been a diesel theft reported locally. Those residents with diesel tanks should be extra vigilant and, where possible, take extra precautions.
