BottesfordNHW Alert: Incident on Monday 25th May

Residents need to be aware that on Bank Holiday Monday there was an incident on Station Road, Bottesford. At approx 1.30pm an 18 year old woman was approached by a man of Asian/eastern European appearance driving a white van. He attempted to persuade her to get into the vehicle via the rear door. It is understood that there was no physical coercion and the young woman ran away and subsequently reported the matter to the police. This incident can be interpreted in different ways but to be on the safe side it would be wise for residents to be extra vigilant. With the summer holidays approaching this would be a good time to remind children and teenagers of the dangers presented by uninvited approaches from strangers particularly in the street or other less populated locations.

There are rumours circulating that this incident may be linked to one recently reported in Newark where it was alleged that an attempt was made to entice a 9 year old girl into a van. NHW understands that this report was investigated by police and judged to be "not as originally reported". The Newark Advertiser has reported the incident as unfounded.
