Some residents have received phone calls this morning purporting to be from a company called Electroguard (or something similar) offering free safety checks on fuse boxes and/or electrical installations as part of a national safety campaign. One recipient reported that she got the impression that the safety check is compulsory. No return telephone number is given, or available, via 1471.
NHW is not aware of any national safety campaign of this nature and we would expect any reputable company at the very least to offer a telephone contact number. There is a company called Electroguard which provides security equipment so this may be an approach from a genuine company using hard sell tactics or it may be fraudsters using the company's name without their knowledge.NHW always advises residents not to engage with cold callers of any kind and this particular approach should be treated with extreme caution.
