We have received reports of recycling/waste bins being raided in the local area and personal information from discarded documents used fraudulently. The only safe way to dispose of any written material containing personal information is to shred or burn it. This includes envelopes with your name and address. You may think that such information is already in the public domain so it really doesn’t matter but fraudsters routinely collect information from a number of different sources which when put together is sufficient to open bank accounts or apply for credit cards IN YOUR NAME. Please don’t discard paperwork containing personal information – destroy it!
