Bottesford NHW Alert: Telephone Scam - Again!

Once again we are getting reports of residents receiving phone calls about their internet "problems". The recipients haven't got any such problems but are told that their internet provider has reported it and the caller offers to put it right over the phone. If the offer is accepted this gives rise to two significant risks for the recipient. Firstly the caller may install malware on the pc under guise of fixing the problem. Secondly they may request payment by credit/debit card and once that financial information has been handed over the card is open to a whole range of fraudulent activity.

Please be aware of these scams. Always be suspicious of anyone offering to fix a problem you haven't got! And even if you do have a problem never accept help offered through cold calling. Initiate a request for help yourself and always use a reputable company.
