Woolsthorpe Lane, Muston - Theft from Parked Cars

Earlier this week we received a report of a parked vehicle being damaged, possibly over the week-end or early Monday morning. The vehicle was parked at the entrance to Sedgebrook Mill on Woolsthorpe Lane.  This is where the old Railway Line (and Cycle Route 15) is situated, just outside the village of Muston itself. The window of the vehicle had been broken whilst parked as indicated by a significant amount of broken glass at the site. At this time no crime report has been received by Leicestershire Police but the likelihood is that this was an attempt, successful or otherwise, to steal items from the car.

If anyone has any information about this incident please let NHW know. If we can establish the approximate time of the incident and/or the the make and colour of the vehicle that was damaged there may be useful information captured by the Mill's security cameras that would enable the perpetrators and/or their vehicle (assuming they arrived in one) to be identified.

Many local people leave their cars at this spot whilst walking their dogs. If you leave your car there please be aware that thieves may be currently operating in this, and similar, locations in our area and take the obvious precautions. Ideally you should not leave valuables in an unattended car. Especially don't leave your house keys as you may arrive home to find you have been burgled in addition to having your car damaged. If you cannot avoid leaving valuables in the car please ensure they are out of sight, preferably secured in the boot.

If anyone experiences similar incidents to this in the future please report it to the police on the non-emergency 101 number and also to us at NHW so that we can keep residents up to date.
