Last Friday/Saturday 17/18 Jan rogue traders were operating in the Vaughan Avenue area of Bottesford. Elderly occupants of a property were visited by males stating they were from a company called Rooftech in Nottingham and they were there to treat and clean the roof (this is a bogus name as although there is a company called Rooftech in Nottingham, they specialise in loft conversions not the maintenance and repair of roofs) The male stated that if they weren't paid £250 to clean the roof, a previous guarantee of work would be invalid. When the occupants stated they weren't interested, the male threatened to come back and smash their windows if they didn't let them do the work. The police are pursuing enquiries and linking with Trading Standards to see if they know of this 'gang of traders' and may shed some light on them.
It goes without saying that residents are advised not to engage with these "traders" and to tell them that they are going to call the police. This normally has the desired effect and they will move on. Ideally, phone the police on 101 straight away as there is more the police can do if they can intercept them. As always when reporting incidents to the police a good description of those involved and vehicle descriptions/registration numbers can prove very helpful in tracking down those responsible for these illegal activities.
Fires
In the early hours of Monday 30 December 2013 two stable blocks at Hemington (north Leics) were damaged by fire. The cause of these fires is not yet known ie it cannot be established if it was electrical or deliberate and further investigations are being carried out. Very sadly horses died as a result of the fires. It has recently been reported by a horse owner in Barkestone Le Vale that red paint has been painted onto a fence and a red arrow painted on the ground possibly to identify premises to steal from or worse. It is vitally important that any suspicious incidents are reported to the Police by telephoning 101 or if an emergency 999. Please be extra vigilant around stables and farms.
Stolen 4x4
During the night of the 15th-16th January between 7.30 and 9am a red/pink Daihatsu parked on the driveway of a property at Croxton Kerrial was stolen. The registration number is M627 JUT, distinguishable features; the unmistakable colour, tow bar, 3inch hole on the wheel arch and Dexter cattle stickers in the windows.
If anyone has any information or sees the vehicle please phone police 101 quoting crime ref number LM140143
