Attempted Break-In
At about 9pm on Thursday night an attempt was made to force entry into the rear of a property on High Street. The perpetrators made off when they were disturbed and the attempt was unsuccessful. Please be extra vigilant; take precautions to protect your home and property; and always report suspicious activity to the police. Emergency or crime in progress 999, otherwise 101.
Suspicious Cold Caller
Please be aware that there is a male going around selling kitchenware from the back of his vehicle(Mercedes 4x4 with a European number plate).
He claims to have been at a display/exhibition at Belton, and before going back to Switzerland he is trying to sell his excess stock at knock down prices. Belton House, Belton Garden Centre and Belton Woods have been contacted and none have heard of "Timeless Products" or had an exhibition with kitchenware. A check on the internet also came up empty.
NHW advice is always to discourage cold callers and not to give out financial information to strangers. In this case residents clearly need to be extra cautious.
VW & Audi Owners Beware
Notts police advise that there has been a recent “spike” in thefts from cars. In particular VWs are being targeted and in-built Sat Nav systems stolen. There is obviously a market for these.
Most vehicle crime is preventable. It can take as little as 10 seconds for a thief to steal something from your car.
Please take particular care to secure your vehicle and make sure you leave nothing on display. Just leaving a coat on the back seat might result in considerable damage to the vehicle from a break-in if the culprit suspects something valuable may be in a pocket.
Also, where you park can make a big difference to the safety of your car and your belongings.
